Pic of the day..

This week I thought I would post a picture everyday on the blog. Some may be old pictures and some maybe new - it's going to be a tough task as I only tend to put a post up once a week!
Today's picture has to be one of my favorite pictures of my daughter who is my little angel..

Winter storms to lucky wins...

I won $200 this week at Chapters . With my new found wealth I decided to treat myself to a book that I have been drooling over for the past few months. 'Visual Poetry" written by Chirs Orwing, who not only is a photographer he also teaches photography. It is a beautiful book full of stunning photos along with some really useful information from getting you started, to creative photography, tips on portraits, weddings, onto equipment the list is endless. I can't wait to have 5 minutes to myself so I can read it!

Not only did Ottawa have it's first snow storm of the winter this week, we also put the Christmas tree up. I really like the picture of the lights on the tree, I wanted to try something different - looks kinda cool - well I think so. The first photo is taken from the mantelpiece with some of the decorations I seem to have plastered all around the house. Both were used with a 50mm f/1.8 lens.

Portraits

I thought this week I would post up a few portraits from my last workshop http://www.harrynowell.com/. This area is new to me and in the New Year I will be doing a natural lights workshop with Harry Nowell Inc - which I am so looking forward to.
If you are reading this and you happen to live in Scotland then please take a look at this website http://imagesbykerry.com/ Kerry is a children's photographer who loves to work with natural light and natural surroundings, so check her out.

Assignment with Andrew Balfour

Last Sunday I spent along with 3 other students photographing dancers at Dance with Alana's dance school in Ottawa. We spent the day shooting dancer's from a number of styles, from Hip Hop to Swing Dancers, and even Burlesque! It was an extremely long day but so much fun! Andrew Balfour, who specializes in wedding , pregnancy and newborn child photography took the workshop . I have put up a few pictures from the day and will post a few more in the next few days as I am still going through all 600 hundred of them!
Today I finally formally registered myself as a business ...Lou Truss Photography. It's very exciting and all I need to do now is sort out my website and to get some business cards printed!

I really would like to thank Alana and all her dancers for all their co-operation last Sunday, they were amazing and I hope my photos do them all justice!

Modelling

Last week my daughter and I were models for a mother and daughter who took a Custom Course based on Natural Light Portraits. Interesting for me seeing if from a different perspective. Children are not easy models and I think for one of my sessions with children in the future will see me bringing lots of props to keep them entertained!
Georgia and I had lots of fun and it will be interesting to see how the photos turned out - I hate having my photo taken and much prefer to be on the other side of a camera!!

Today my lovely daughter and myself (well mainly Georgia) were models for 2 students doing a Custom Course portrait workshop with Harry Nowell Photography Inc at the National Gallery in Ottawa . It was a great insight for me as I have yet to do a portrait workshop. What did I learn ?...children are not easy models and can be challenging!! I am actually doing a workshop next week with Harry Nowell Photography Inc www.harrynowell.com/ I will be learning lighting skills and will be on location with Andrew Balfour and I can't wait as this will be the start for me to take portraits. I shall tell you more after the course next week!
